Religious Hate
68Why does religion cause hate and suffering?
Because they don't know how to understand right from wrong? Or perhaps they have lost all connection with themselves, as their books preach selflessness, and depend of faith that they are doing the right thing instead of applying certain notions of humble, gentle kindness and love.
They implore that you must submit or burn in eternal hell or even disguise their abominable hearts with words or love. Because Jesus loves you, you must submit or die. He died for you and your sin, if you reject this principal you have no moral foundation to which anything you say should be taken seriously. See forum thread on topic: What Part of the Bible is a Fact?
They reject seekers of facts as it has shown so clearly that instead of discerning facts from fiction, it makes more sense that they throw out logical inquiries and turn all discussion into feuds of hate blaming and moral degradation on behalf of the none believers. Who so admirably suggest time and time again that killing and degradation of other people is no way to be. That self acceptance, understanding and accountability is a better way.
They Preach Non Acceptance.
Though they cover their notions with nice words such as Jesus Christ has accepted me, a sinner into the kingdom of Heaven, or forgiveness is the way, or love is god etc... what always follows is varying forms of more hate. They genuinely believe that it is appropriate and righteous to deny science and free thought to those who come looking for answers and use rhetoric to distort things out of context so that they can implore that the Atheist are the Devil because they do not believe and that is what the Bible says.
Most have never read or even understand the things they are reading but rely on faith. A faith derived from a book that says the Devil will appear as an Angle of Light in the darkness while Jesus preaches he is the light of the darkness. I can see the delusion they suffer from... a people of lost hope so quick to fight and so slow to humble. They believe they are always right now matter what wrong they do.
So the killing continues and as more death occurs as a premise to their beliefs that disrupt other systems of beliefs as well, they never stop to understand. You have to stop before others will stop, as Jesus Christ implores "turn the other cheek". Yet instead of issuing acceptance and peace which, by the way, is or was their premise for truth that because they accepted Jesus, then Jesus has accepted them. Try this on them with someone of a different belief or understanding and the whole premise goes out the window. Because even though they were as we are without faith before they became the "faithful", they compromise the principals with hypocrisy.
Yet my most favored thing of all...
Instead of taking the time to understand us, me, you as an individual with their own set of beliefs they drop the whole of the people who do not follow them into one big pot and call it the devil. They say that our good deeds don't mean shit if we don't have faith so we are wasting our time on humanitarian efforts. They look past the good deeds of the 'non believers' and call it Satan's deception because Satan wants you to be mislead and will do all the good things in the world without faith just to lure you away from the one true god.
They make horrible accusations based on a system of beliefs that have no means to and end or factual evidence that makes the fiery chariots real. They believe the whole Bible is the truth and the word of god accept of course when it is obviously to be taken as symbolism not a literal truth. They say it is not open to interpretation yet the whole thing is. Interpretations of myths past translated into modern context which changes as everything does over time.
But for some of these folks, change is not acceptable. The blame game and hypocrisy has to go on until the end because the victor shall go to the faithful. While they cry about the things that have transpired over the years, more death, more famine, and even technology, they speak to themselves, "Why God?"
Though God speaks back quietly in the background saying, "because you cannot hear me", they are left with a feeling that in order to fulfill this god's will, they must use the Bible to make their decisions and just pray they did the right thing. While the unbelievers shake their heads and think, "you are so ignorant".
Why faith over logic? You see, I know that if I killed someone or hurt someone or whatever be the case, that there are consequences. I know that there are other people in the world connected to someone else, and I know what vengeance does. I know I do not want any such thing to happen to me and I don't rely on a begotten promise of eternal life to justify the murder of someone else to make my decisions.
I depend on the understand that life has taught me. I know hurt, I know loss, I know suffering. I know what it is like to be homeless, I know what infidelity is like but above all else I know two things.
- True love is given freely without acceptance.
- The Obligation to Benevolence
And it hasn't anything to do with the idea of any god but it has everything to do with respect, equality (not to be confused with a notion that I must accept your religions out of respect). Not to say that what is yours should also be mine just a very simple understanding that because you love something doesn't mean that I also love it back. It means that in the same manor as I love something of my own, then I know that what you feel is equally as powerful. If you were to take this away from me, then I know how I would feel. So it goes without saying.
Knowing how I would feel about such things prevents me from doing them to others.
And all the religions said....
While they pound away at peoples feelings as if they have non themselves, it shows their heart has an foul disposition. One that was taught out of unacceptability, that in order to meet the approval of their parents or those they respect, they submit. It is selfishness on both parts.
To be selfless would allow others to be as they are despite how you 'feel' because it should never be about you. A lesson overlooked in the story of Christ... neither was it about him.
It is about us.

Very well put together and expressed summation of thoughts that I have gleaned first and foremost, even at an early age.
The most prominent memories from around 10 years old Sitting in a Baptist church and hearing from the pulpit that all the Catholics were wrong and that they were an abomination. I couldn't understand as an avid reader how it could be, a Sunday morning message that in the small town I lived in, had 4 churches, and everybody that was not in the church I was in were all going to the eternal torture of hell.
After all I was young and many of these people were my school mates and some even friends. To say the least it was confusing to me, but somehow I remember vividly thinking what I'm hearing is wrong.
I thought it then and I know it now. In a crippled world there is a severe lack of tolerance and love.
Seems like few will tolerate a fellow sinner long or at all for that matter, in order to demonstrate good works for another to see and learn from. I think shaking a Bible in someones face and declaring, (Take your pick of things to insert here) or it is off to hell with you, is a poor way to help, teach, or "witness" to anyone. It seems to be better to let them see what it is you are. Then an appropriate time will come to speak civilly to them.
I'm rambling, thanks for a good early morning read.

Hi Anna, you have summed up the effects of religion very well. But you are perhaps too hard on the religious. Not all are as hateful as it appears. I know I have been there. I, like you, understood the unconditional love and benevolence, but my theology caused me to place everyone in a box. I didn't like it, especially when I met a really nice, good-deed person. Something just didn't jive.
Now I have left the box of theology and see all people as precious in God's eyes, and that we are all one, in which acceptance is mandatory. It is the dogma of religion which causes the apparent arrogant judgementalism. Remove the dogma and leave the "Love your neighbour as yourself" and most of the world's problems dissolve into nothingness.
Thanks, Jim
